Plastic
Plastic consumption increased drastically over the years due to the excellent strength to weight ratio, durability and cost effectiveness. Polypropylene, Polyethylene, Polyvinyl Chloride and Polyethylene terepthalate are most commonly used plastics. Recovering the plastic from different day to day usage and reprocessing it to a beneficial product is very important in waste management and controlling plastic pollution. Identification of plastics plays crucial role in this process.
Pesticide
Pesticides are used in farming to yield high production by protecting the crop from pests and diseases. However, retained pesticides in soil/water are harmful. It is essential to contain the level of pesticides in the environment within the residue limit. Existing detection methods to determine the pesticides are time-consuming and sophisticated. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy is a highly sensitive technique with a short detection time and is used in the current study to determine Thiram.
Pharmaceutical API
The quality of the pharmaceutical product depends on the uniformity of the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and excipients. It is essential to ensure homogenous distribution at different stages of the manufacturing process. Raman mapping is an alternative to the existing expensive, and destructive chromatography technique to monitor homogeneity. Mapping provides the spatial distribution and also the size of the constituents in a sample.
Battery Materials
A fundamental understanding of battery materials and their characterization is very important in taking the technology forward in a quick phase and addressing the growing energy demand. Raman spectroscopy is the quickest.
Forensic Tracer Analysis
Raman Spectroscopy has found applications in diverse fields of forensic science, such as toxicology, trace analysis, drug detection, and document authentication. A major advantage of using Raman spectroscopy is its ability to identify various sample types, including gases and liquids, while requiring only a tiny quantity of the sample, typically in the order of milligrams. The analysis turnaround time is quick. Furthermore, Raman spectrometers are available in portable or handheld configurations, facilitating on-site analysis and immediate results. Various fibers and buttons from different cloth have been characterized in this application note for forensic trace analysis.
